Afghanistan cricket team has just finished a dual series against Ireland where both teams have visited India. As the neutral venue, all matches between them were hosted there. But, there was only one venue where all matches took place. It was Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun. They started with T20I cricket which consisted of three matches. Afghanistan whitewashed Ireland in the T20I series. Later, the five matches ODI series executed between them and it was ended with a 2 – 2 game drawn. A match finished with no result. Finally, these two teams played a Test match and considering the match, Afghanistan got their first Test victory.
If we consider the ICC Test ranking, Afghanistan and Ireland are both out of the best 10. Both are lower rated teams in Test format. So, they did not get much chance to play Test series with the big teams. And against Ireland, finally, Afghanistan got their first Test victory.
The only Test match started in the 15th March 2019 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium where Ireland won the toss and decided to bat first. So, they started but could not hold the wickets much longer. They only played 60 overs and got all out. Team Ireland scored 172 runs totally where Tim Murtagh scored the highest 54 runs unbeaten. For the Afghan team, Nabi took three wickets highest in 14 overs.
Later, team Afghanistan came to bat for the first innings. They are experienced than Ireland in that case. The team Afghan played 106.3 overs in their first innings and by losing all wickets, they scored 314 runs so far. Rahmat Shah scored the highest 98 runs Aand Afghan captain Asghar Afghan scored 67 runs for the team. Stuart Thompson took three wickets for the Irish team so far.
Ireland played the 2nd innings better than first. They played 93 overs in the 2nd innings and scored 288 runs. Andrew Balbirnie scored 82 runs highest and O’Brien scored 56 runs so far. In the innings, Afghan bowler Rashid Khan took five wickets and destroyed Irish innings. Besides, he has become the first bowler for Afghan team to take five wickets so far.
Finally, team Ireland presented a target in front of Afghanistan but it was not big. By playing 47.5 overs Afghanistan reached the destination. They just lost three wickets during the time. Rahmat Shah scored 76 runs highest for the team. So, along with the victory against Ireland, Afghanistan got their first Test victory so far.
