New Zealand cricket team which is the current runners-up in the recently finished ICC World Cup 2019 is visiting Sri Lanka for a dual series. After the World Cup 2019, it is the first official tour of the Black Caps and also they are quite confident. The tour consists of Tst and T20I series and Black Caps started the tour with the long format cricket. After watching their tremendous performance in the last World Cup, New Zealand is considered as the hot favourite. Before making the official Test, Black Caps played a three days warm up match against the Sri Lanka Board Presidents XI. Now, considering the first official Test, Karunaratne ton helps Sri Lanka won the 1st Test against New Zealand.
The warm-up match was drawn and the Black Caps could not play because of rain. So, on 14th August 2019, the first Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand started and the venue was Galle International Stadium, Galle. The guest team New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first.

However, the first day of the first Test was affected by the rain and 22 overs of the game were lost fully. The Black Caps could not add a big total in their first innings only but scored 249 runs in 83.2 overs. Taylor scored the highest 86 runs in 132 balls.
The Lions bowler Akila Dananjaya took five wickets highest in the first innings. Later, Sri Lanka came to bat and they scored a little more than New Zealand. By playing 93.2 overs, Sri Lanka scored 267 runs. Niroshan Dickwella added 61 runs highest for the Lions. Like the Lankan bowler, Black Caps Ajaz also took five wickets in the first innings.

If we consider the 2nd innings, the guest team played better than their first innings. This time, they played a total of 106 overs and scored 285 runs and lost all wickets. BJ Watling scored 77 runs highest for New Zealand. The Lankan bowler Lasith took four wickets in the 2nd innings.
Later, Sri Lanka came to chase the score finally and playing 86.1 overs, they chased the given target successfully. Based on the amazing century of their star Dimuth Karunaratne, the Lions got the victory. Now, they are leading the Test series by a 1 – 0. The Test series consisted of two matches and so, the Lions have secured the series we can tell.
