Liverpool wants Kalidou Koulibaly as a partner of Virgil Van Dijk

Premier League leaders Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Italian giants Napoli for center-back Kalidou Koulibaly, a long-term target of Manchester United. Liverpool wants Kalidou Koulibaly as a partner of Virgil Van Dijk.

The Reds want to hijack the signing of long-term manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who plans to unite his club captain Harry Maguire in central defense.

Italian newspaper TuttoMercato says Liverpool have made initial contact with Napoli with a view to lining up Kalidou’s center-back Virgil Van Dijk as one of the best defensive partners ever.

Koulibaly was on the market for £100 million initially but the report says that prices will drop dramatically due to the global strain of the Coronavirus

The arrival of Kalidou Koulibaly at Anfield is expected to offset the departure of Cameroonian Joel Matip, who is now Jurgen Klopp’s first choice with Van Dijk when fit.

Liverpool fans are expected to be eager to see their defense reunited with the 28-year-old after the Senegalese star’s excellent work in Italy. The former Genk star has become one of the best central defenders in the world since 2014 when he moved from Napoli to Napoli, where he played 233 times.

Finally, it is believed Koulibaly himself wants an exit, and his club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has expressed his view of leaving the club.
