It seems the fate of Rajshahi Royals turned to best. They have tasted the glory of Bangladesh Premier League. Yes, by defeating Khulna Tigers, Rajshahi Royals won their first BPL title!
The 7th season of the Bangladesh top professional league cricket competition has just finished successfully. The whole tournament consisted of 46 matches. A total of seven participants took part here. In the group stage, all teams played 12 matches each. A total of four teams, top-ranked teams qualified for the playoff. Khulna Tigers and Rajshahi Royals ended the group stage as the top two teams. So, they played the first qualifier. Khulna Tigers beat Royals by 27 runs there. As the 2nd ranked team, Rajshahi Royals got the 2nd chance and took part in the 2nd qualifier. Royals won the match against Chattogram Challengers and moved to the final.
In the group stage, Rajshahi Royals faced Khulna Tigers twice times. In their first meeting, Tigers won the match but in the 2nd match, Royals beat Khulna Tigers by 7 wickets. Including the final, these two teams played against each other four times in the season of Bangladesh Premier League. Both teams won two times each so far.
Earlier today, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka the 7th episode’s final of the BPL took place between Rajshahi Royals and Khulna Tigers. Mushfiqur Rahim is the skipper of the franchise team of Khulna and Andre Russell has led the Rajshahi Royals.

Khulna Tigers won the toss and let Rajshahi bat first. Liton Das and Afif Hossain started the match for Royals. They lost the first wicket in 14 runs. Afif returned to the dressing room. Later, Irfan Sukkur came to the crease and made a partnership. He added the highest 52 runs in 35 balls. Andre Russell scored 27 runs and Mohammad Nawaz scored 41 runs in 20 balls. Both remained unbeaten. Losing four wickets, Rajshahi Royals scored 170 runs in 20 overs.
Then, Khulna Tigers came to chase the score but within just 11 runs, they lost two openers Shanto and Mehidy Hasan. The partnership between Shamsur and Rilee Rossouw, they led the team ahead. In 85 runs, Rossouw was gone. He added 37 runs and Shamsur scored the highest 52 runs so far. Later, Mushfiq added a bit score but the rest players failed to do their job properly. Losing 8 wickets in 20 overs, Tigers finished their innings scoring 149 runs.
