Earlier, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo won the trophy for the five times each. From the year 2008 to 2017, excluding these two football legends, no one could win the award. By breaking their dominance, in the last year, Croatian midfielder Luka Modric won the award for his brilliant performance in the Russia World Cup 2018.
As usual, Lionel Messi has passed the last season so well. He played the vital role of leading Barcelona to the La Liga title. By leaving behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane, he has become the best forward for the last season’s UCL performance. For his club and national team, the Argentine star has scored a total of 54 goals by playing 58 matches. Though wearing the national team’s jersey, his last season was not ended well. His team Argentine was ruled out from the Copa America semi-final by defeating against Brazil.
On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo passed the last season so well with his new club Juventus. Wearing the Old Lady jersey, he won Juventus’s 8th consecutive Serie A title and also le his national team to the UEFA Nations League title.
He made an amazing hat-trick in the semi-final of the tournament but considering individual achievement, he was far behind than LM10 but scored only 28 goals in all competitions. Now, when we look at the Dutch star Van Dijk, he led his team Liverpool to the Champions League title and in the Premier League, the Reds finished with 2nd position.
